GERD disease is a condition wherein the stomach's acid contents are regurgitated back into the esophagus. The corrosive liquid may cause damage to the tissue membranes of the esophagus. As this happens, a painful burning sensation is felt near the chest which sometimes mistakenly interpreted as a heart attack. But this is entirely due to the acid that washes up the esophagus.
The stomach has two sphincters. The lower esophageal sphincter is weak in the case of gastroeophageal reflux disease which may be attributed to a lot of factors that may have persisted overtime. The LES shuts everything
